Newly released video shows changes to Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway.

Priestly Demolition Inc. (PDI) has released a video of its dismantling of the Gardiner Expressway Eastbound Ramp in Toronto. To avoid disrupting commuter traffic, the project took place over a period of five weekends late in 2021, wrapping up in October.

The new video shares drone footage, time-lapse video and project highlights of PDI’s rapid demolition of the structure. Also included are some behind the scenes details about how the project plan was put together.

The removal of the ramp is part of the City of Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation Plan and its Port Lands Flood Mitigation Protection project. Changes to the highway were approved in 2015. At the time when the city council approved the plan, it was estimated that it would cost less to revamp that section of roadways than to maintain the existing structures.
